Reverend Sister Stanislaus

Our Founder - Rev. Sister. Stanislaus Swamikannu,
Founder of J.M. J. Education Institutions

Reverend Sister Mary Stansilaus Swamikannu was born on 2nd January 1897 at Madras. She was the child of a God-fearing Father Louis Dominic Swamikannu Pillai (President of the Legislative Council). Her father was one of the most modest and humblest man, endowed with a very unusual gift of intellect which he put to work for the welfare of the society. Her mother Anne Rose Swamikannu was known in Tamilnadu for her hospitality, generosity & loving care of all who came to her home. These influences nourished the seed of the love of God in the child.

Sr. Stanislaus had all here education at Madras. The Irish nuns moulded the child into an angel with a strong will to do only what is right. On 15th August 1923, Sr. Stanislaus accompanied by her father came to Andhra Pradesh to join the Society of J.M.J in St. Jospeh's Convent, Guntur. Andhra Pradesh was chosen by her father because he had in mind the cause of women's education which was very much in backlog.

Having put the hand to the plough, Sr. Stanislaus never for a moment looked back. The education be it Primary or Higher or University which the J.M.J. Sister carrying today in India is entirely the outcome of Sr. Stansilaus enterprise & endeavour, initiative, planning & thinking. She is the corner stone of the educational edifice in the J.M.J. Province in India.
Sr. Stansilas was a woman of deep piety & faith, a woman with a global vision & mission for future. She was an administrator par excellence; a superb leader endowed with noble qualities of head & heart and with a deep-rooted determination to do good to all in all her undertakings, she would go on most perseveringly, persistently & courageously confronting all opposition cheerfully with an optimistic outlook trusting in the Lord.

Marvelous was her patience, her ability to listen, direct, guide & cheer the one in distress. Her innumerable students worship her as their loving Mother. Her only target was the liberation of the person through the Gospel values of joy, love, service & all for the glory of God.

Thus we can say that Sr. Stanislaus Swamikannu is the founder, the mastermind, the backbone & the architect of the Educational Society J.M.J. in India.
